Missing Google Analytics
Installing Google Analytics is one of the most important aspects of marketing your website. It collects various website data including website traffic, conversion tracking, where your visitors are coming from, how long visitors are staying on your website and what pages they’re visiting, among various other statistics. As a free tool, it’s a no brainer to install this onto your website.
Avoid spammy website content
You know the kind of content I’m talking about: it uses the same word(s) repeatedly, often in an incoherent manner. Instead, place keywords and key phrases naturally throughout your content so they add value to your site.
Remember: you’re writing for your users, not just the search engines.
Avoid irrelevant and useless text links
Pay attention to the text you’re hyperlinking and the pages they link to. Too many hyperlinks take away from the value of your content, and frankly, they’re annoying.
Listing locations at the bottom of the page and linking them all to one page is also frowned upon. Only place these text links on your website if you have different location pages and contact information for each location.
Avoid sales-y blog posts
People don’t read blogs to read about how great your products are; blogs are to inform your readers, answer their questions, and address industry-related news and topics. Stay away from pitching your readers on every post. Keep the sales-y writing to your website content, and even there, be more informational than sales-y.
There’s a huge difference between demonstrating your expertise and being obnoxious about why people should choose your brand over the competition.
Avoid inconsistent social network profiles
From your profile picture to the about us and contact information sections, keep your social networks consistent. Staying consistent on your social networks will make it easier for people to recognize, remember, and ultimately use your brand.
Avoid posting only about your company and its services on social media
While it’s OK to post about your company’s products and services occasionally, people are looking for more than a sales pitch on social media. Social media is all about sharing; provide your fans and followers with interesting and useful information. Share other company’s posts and encourage others to share their thoughts with you.
Avoid incomplete page titles and descriptions
Page titles and descriptions are the foundations of on-site SEO; make sure each page has a unique title and description. This will help with your site’s rankings in the search engines and it makes your website look complete.
